Porcelain Veneers

Owings Mills Dentistry

What are Porcelain Veneers?

Porcelain veneers are specifically designed to cover the front teeth. This can be done as a way to enhance and perfect your smile as well as cover up any imperfections and flaws that you might have. Veneers are thin and delicate, yet incredibly long-lasting and resilient. Most patients have their veneers for more than 10 years without having to worry about them falling off or needing replacement.

Why might Porcelain Veneers be needed?

You might want or need veneers because you’re planning a big event and want to look great. You might be tired of your smile and want to transform your appearance. Veneers can cover teeth that are discolored, stained, chipped, cracked or otherwise unsightly. Veneers are easy to place, and little to no anesthetic is required in order to prep the front teeth for them.

Who is a candidate for Porcelain Veneers?

Most of our patients who want veneers can have them placed over their existing smile. In order for veneers to adhere properly, your front teeth should be free of decay and other dental problems. We will examine your teeth to determine if porcelain veneers are the best choice for you. We can replace older veneers as they show signs of damage or wear.

What happens during the Porcelain Veneer process?

We begin by prepping the front teeth to receive the new porcelain veneers. This involves slightly filing them down and buffing the smooth, shiny surface. This enhances the look of your veneers so that they don’t appear bulky while simultaneously helping the veneers to adhere better onto the teeth. We then take impressions and use these detailed molds to make the porcelain veneers. You’ll come back into the office for a second appointment to have the actual permanent veneers applied to the teeth. We place each veneer individually and then adjust the way that your smile looks. We will then reveal your brand new smile to you before you leave the office.
