What is Teeth Whitening?

Whitening is a wonderful way to lift and dissolve stains and discoloration on your teeth. Many different factors can contribute to having a stained or severely discolored smile. We offer both in-office whitening as well as a take-home professional option that can improve your appearance. Whether you’re looking to brighten your smile for a big event or just as a quick confidence boost, we offer safe, effective whitening in our practice.

Why would Teeth Whitening be needed?

Smoking, drinking coffee and tea as well as taking certain medications can all have an impact on how your smile looks. In fact, just the act of getting older can have an effect on your teeth and how they appear. Deep stains and discoloration can make you look older and give the appearance of having unhealthy teeth. White, bright and shiny teeth are often a sign of good oral health.

Who is a good candidate for Teeth Whitening?

Professional whitening typically only affects your natural teeth. If you would like to lighten restorations like veneers or crowns, it is important to consider having them replaced rather than whitened. Whitening is typically safe for most of our patients’ teeth. We can examine your teeth prior to undergoing whitening to ensure that it is the best choice for you.

What happens during the Teeth Whitening procedure?

The teeth whitening process begins with a consultation to determine which option is right for you. Our in-office whitening involves applying a gentle, effective gel to your teeth. We then place a light over your smile to accelerate and improve the effects of the whitening gel. In just about an hour, your teeth are multiple shades whiter and you’ll be ready to leave the office. For our take-home whitening, impressions are made and used to create custom-fit trays. These trays are worn with a professional-grade whitening gel for a specific period of time at home. You can keep the trays and simply come in whenever you need more whitening gel.
